Description
Pittock Mansion in Portland is a beautiful French Renaisance home furnished with 17th and 18th century European and American antiques. Each room is a comfortable room you'd like to live in compared to a lot of stuffy old mansions. Fee is reasonable and you can look at your own leisure with only ropes to keep you from damaging after you are in the rooms. No looking from blocked doors! No camera restrictions anywhere. It sits 1000 feet above Portland and the grounds are beautiful. The most used living rooms on the back side have great large windows overlooking the city... Just gorgeous even on a stormy day. This image was made during a short break in weather after big storm clouds which were still on the horizon for other images looking down on Portland. On clear days you can apparently see about 5 mountains. It was built by Henry Pittock, the founder of The Daily Oregonian newspaper and finished around 1914. Inside is a fabulous staircase that curves around giving access to three levels. Larger than it looks and room for extra family with children to move in with them. Front entry {french doors}, along with the stair level on the 2nd floor have fabulous views of the flowered grounds and the white flowering trees next to the home.
